When young people come together for a web series in the current OTT space, it is expected to be fun-and-frolic with frivolous elements thrown in. However, the trailer for Indori Ishq made it clear that this Samit Kakkad-directed web series would be anything but lighthearted. Despite the fact that the offering contained a romantic story at its heart, it conveyed something dark and stark. The question, however, was, 'How should a man react if the woman he is deeply and madly in love with abandons him for no apparent reason?'
The manner in which youngster Ritwik Sahore realises that the girl he has been in love with since Class 10th, Vedika Bhandari, hasn't taken long distance relationships seriously could be compared to a Luv Ranjan film on steroids. As he leaves his comfort zone of Indore to train for Merchant Navy in Mumbai, all the love in his lady love's life fades. Despite all of the temptations that his flatmate Aashay Kulkarni offers, he remains committed, only to discover that it was all for naught.

The story's strength is that it evolves throughout, even as it moves back and forth in time, and then begins to progress further at a steady pace with several twists and turns. Indori Ishq begins with a murder that is about to occur and quickly moves into a zone where Ritwik is shown to be in a truly dark place. While he channels his inner Kabir Singh as a distraught youngster drowning his life in drugs and booze, there is also a Dev D vibe as he meets his Chandramukhi in the form of friendly broker cum hooker Donna Munshi. He keeps it cool in a style reminiscent of Emraan Hashmi, and with all the filmy angles making the proceedings dramatic and entertaining, there is also plenty of sex and language thrown in. This is where I'd admit that all of this seems rather unnecessary in the grand scheme of things, because even a hint of that would have allowed the story to be just as interesting, given the core subject matter that the team was working with. As a result, having cuss words in almost every dialogue and having each woman disrobe herself seemed forced. However, ignoring these aspects of the story, what stands out about Indori Ishq is the way Samit Kakkad effectively incorporates technical elements. He has a keen eye for visuals, as evidenced by the montage sequences in the first ten minutes of the pilot episode. No wonder, despite the web series' dark theme, you are not put off because there is a certain style element that comes in. Furthermore, he integrates music well into the narrative, and hearing Altaf Raja is pure nostalgia. The original song that stands out is 'Iss Qadar Pyar Hai,' which plays when Ritwik rekindles his love life. This song is surrounded by a lengthy montage sequence, which is beautifully done. It's also lovely to see the tender moments he has with Donna and another friendly neighbour, Tithi Raj, who offers him another chance to find love. His camaraderie with the gang's boys is even better, as what he does with Aashay (in Mumbai) and Dheer Hira (in Indore) is completely natural, minus the cuss words. Even so, it's the emotional violence in Indori Ishq that grabs your attention. You feel for Ritwik as he goes through the motions, and while many of his actions seem unjustified and exaggerated (why would he really kill himself one day after another, and his friends and family would allow that is beyond comprehension), the web series has its heart in the right place at the end of the day. You are completely captivated by the drama's highly dramatic emotions of unrequited love, which are presented in a stark reality yet entertaining manner. Each actor does an outstanding job in their respective roles. Ritwik Sahore is a rare actor who has successfully transitioned from a child actor (Ferrari Ki Sawaari, Dangal) to a young adult. Vedika Bhandari is every bit the entrancing young lady who can turn around at any time. She is ideal for the role. Donna Munshi performs admirably without becoming obnoxious, whereas Tithi Raaj is that young attractive woman next door who is adorable. Aashay and Dheer, in particular, are completely relatable, self-assured, and practical. Rest assured, all men will recognise the duo as friends from their school and college days. Relatable! Of course, Indori Ishq is intended for adults-only viewing, so you must declare that you are over the age of 18 before you can watch it. There are many cuss words and graphically explicit scenes, which may make some people uncomfortable.
